Happy Birthday J

Last week we celebrated J's birthday. Boo and I made a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (for better cream cheese frosting, double the butter, cream cheese and vanilla).

Boo proudly added the candles, and practiced blowing them out.

She was excited for her birthday before, now she is just about beside herself with excitement. I'm starting to think about birthday gifts for her, and I want to add to her arts and crafts collection. Any suggestions beyond the basics...markers, crayons, glue, and construction paper?

  1. Uh, it was J's birthday? Ooops. I guess we win the award for good siblings. Happy Belated B-day anyways!

  2. Emma is WAY into birthdays, too. She celebrates her own and any miscellaneous stuffed animals' birthdays pretty much every day. As for craft stuff, this might be considered basic, but Emma LOVES water coloring. Really painting in any form goes over very well with her. I especially like the paint with water pages/books - makes cleanup much easier. Just my two cents!

BTW, your girls are so adorable!

  3. Do you have an easel for her? We actually found a child craft one at a flea market for like $10! And I know you have killer garage sales out there... so maybe something like that? Oh, and another really fun thing we do with Allie is tub paints!! It's so fun for her and it's such an easy cleanup. :)

  4. Well, Grant just barely got into coloring - but now he LOVES it and what did it was a package of glitter crayons...I got them at a yard sale for 25 cents. They are all broken now and so I decided to get him some new ones for his b-day - they are 6 bucks (bummer) but Grant loved them so much. If you are interested I found them on ebay. Anyways, good luck with the birthday planning! Right now Grant wants a rainbow cake with pink and red decorations :) too bad we can't have a party for them together!

  5. I don't know if you put this in with arts and crafts, but my kids LOVE playdough... I know it is messy, but give them some playdough and rolling pin and cookie cutters and they are set for at least an hour, they love it... you can also do that edible peanut butter playdough too! The other thing that my kids love is random little things like buttons to string (sofie spends hours on this one alone), pasta to glue on, pom poms, googly eyes, you know random glue on stuff! It is their favorite! Hope this helps!

  6. Don't forget the watercolor paints, and buttons. They are great to sort and glue and string.

  7. Foam stickers are my new favorite. They're easy to grab and if they get put on something they shouldn't have they come off super easy. Kind of expensive, but with sales or coupons and Micheals or Joanns they aren't too bad

  8. watercolors are great. my kids love to watercolor paint those jumbo color pages that are like 3 feet tall. its easy clean up as well. they do play dough pretty well, but we always have to make sure it stays on the plastic mat. I bought the paint the is inside the brushes... those seems to be easy for the kids to use and doesn't make as big of a mess. Thats all I can come up with for now. I'll think some more and let you know. :)

  9. Pony Beads and pipe cleaner. the pipe cleaner is easier to string than...well string. Plus they can twist the pieces together for easy closure AND you can create and recreate.
